About TOEFL

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardised English language proficiency test designed to assess the English language abilities of international students seeking admission to universities in English-speaking countries. It stands as one of the primary English language assessments taken by non-native speakers aiming to pursue higher education abroad.

TOEFL is widely recognised, with over 11,000 universities and institutions in more than 190 countries acknowledging its scores. This test is a prerequisite for university admissions in English-speaking nations like Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The specific TOEFL score requirements may vary among universities and academic programs.

TOEFL essentially serves as a litmus test to determine if individuals possess the necessary English skills for success in an academic setting. Comprising entirely of academic questions and tasks, it is widely regarded by universities and colleges worldwide as one of the premier English language proficiency tests for making admission decisions.

Among the most popular courses offered by ESP Global Visa is the TOEFL preparation course. We offer new sessions every week, featuring rotating modules to cater to the diverse needs of our students.

TOEFL Exam Format

The TOEFL tests are conducted in two modes: Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) and Paper-Delivered Test (TOEFL PBT).

Internet Based Test

The TOEFL iBT test is the top choice for non-native English speakers, with over 90% of students opting for the internet-based format. It consists of four sections: Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading, all conducted on a computer with a microphone and camera. Unlike some tests, TOEFL iBT does not have a standalone grammar section; instead, grammar is assessed within the writing section.

Paper Based Test

The TOEFL PBT is a paper-based TOEFL test for students who are not in proximity to internet-based test centres. It consists of the Reading, Writing and Listening sections, with scores that are on the same scale as the TOEFL iBT.  The Listening section in this test has recordings that are shorter than in the TOEFL iBT. Unlike TOEFL iBT, the TOEFL PBT test contains a separate essay section i.e. Structure and Written Expression section.
